Hi there, in terms of the simple power to the light you can indeed as you said use the purple wire and the black one.

Thank you Tom for your confirmation i will use the Black for -ve and violet/brown for positive, it is a nice DIY from a Portuugese forum for defender soft tops owners needing interior light.
Apparently from the forum when installed the light reacts to the door opening and closing as well as, i have yet to confirm after i install. If you would like to consult here goes the link: http://landmania.pt/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=10126 Happy Travel www.thegippo.wordpress.com |

That's OK
I only know as have only just changed my puma to soft top and its the same plug. Im not sure it will come on with the door open though, it should and mine does. However I have the other half to the plug on mine with the motion sensor for the alarm aswell. Id of thought your right though, just cant guarantee 100% Cheers Tom Defender puma dormobile camper |

2mm thickness / 6cm wide
Click image to enlarge Just to inform you that you dont need to hook up the negative wire (Left wire)as you get it when you fix the plate to the body of the landy.....meaning you can only hook up the purple (violet)/Brown wire +ve, it will do. Hello Sherif,
I saw this on your blog, why do you cover the hoses in metal foil? Just curious. Is that a bit of card I between the light and the bracket? If so isn't that a fire hazard?

Hi Vee Tee,
Well i saw it on another similar instalation and the reason given to me was that most rubber tubing exposed to engine heat will deteriorate with time and this works as a heat reflector & a prolonged protection..... I liked the logic and I am using it for a while with no problems!!! i guess time will tell Che Happy Travel www.thegippo.wordpress.com |

Hi MK, You are right ....that is what i thought to myself so what i did is 2 things: 1 -i put an aluminum paper as an isolation between the paper and light. 2- I changed the standard light bulb to a led (less heat source) as you can see the plugs are well isolated i think it is all secure.
