Small Regular Water Loss

I have been topping up the coolant on my Puma consistantly since I got it. I was new and now has 30k kms on it. It seems that every 5000-7000kms I add about 2-300ml of water to the header tank to bring it back to the cold level. I have also made sure that the bleed screw location is also full of water at the same time.

Any idea where it could be going as there are no obvious leaks?

If it was something big like a head gasket problem it would surely have let go by now. Espicially as most of my driving is high speed in hot weather with the aircon on.

Also the engine temperature has never moved and the aircon has never cut out due to hot engine.

not necesarily - but you could always get it pressure tested.

More likely to be something like a jubliee clip issue...i had a similar fault for years and only by chance did i catch the slight drip from a pipe and fit a second jubliee clip ( the first was tight and located perfectly). In the mean time i had changed a number of things. Mike

Check both sides of the radiator as mine was poorly swaged plastic to ally core and the only signs was a green yellow algie like trace all the way down the sides. Also hot antifreeze has a curry smell to it If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

I have found that some td5 and gems v8 engines appear to loose water on a regular basis.But they find their own level in the expansion tank,usualy below the the cold level line.
Next time the tank level is low try marking it and then check daily to see if it uses any more water. Its never over in my land rover.

I've found that with my TD5 too, it seems to drop about a quarter of an inch but stays happily there. Editor of FunRover - One blog. Read it!

The water level should change between Summer and Winter. As the Average temperature falls so the water volume in the cooling system, when cold, should drop to a lower level in Winter compared to Summer. Could this account for the changes noted?

so much for that...

I just had to put in 750ml of coolant in the Puma. There are no signs of leaks anywhere, and this is the first time this has happened.

What should I be looking at in particular, and why didn't the EMS pick up the coolant loss? --

Hmm.. is the turbo also water-cooled or not?

Could this have something to do with the EGR-shut remap from BAS? --

After I topped up the coolant this morning, I ran some errands. 80km later, the coolant level has gone down by around 5-6mm

No signs of leaks anywhere on the floor - guess it's a head gasket then
