The injectors are not easy to remove - but persistence will win in the end. Apparently they make a special tool that grips the top of the injector and has a slide hammer to pull the injectors. I just had an adjustable wrench which I used to twist the injectors back and forth as I pulled up. Eventually they will come out. (I would love to hear if anyone has a better way!)

You need to remove the plastic cover, hard lines, fuel return line, electrical connections little plastic covers and then remove the injector clamp bolt and clamp. The injector clamp bolts are wimbly little things that must be replaced - the kit you showed includes them.

Once you have the injectors out, you can clean them up with a wire wheel - make them look shinny again!

Next remove the valve cover so you have better access to the injector seats.

The brass injector seals usually come out with the injectors - but if not you will need to fish them out of the injector seats. easier to do with the valve cover off.

I used a small wire brush attached to a long extension and a drill to remove the large chunks from the injector seats. Then I took the heavy duty blue paper shop towels and cut them into 3rds. I took the strip of paper towel and taped one end of it to a long screw driver and wrapped it around tightly. I sprayed some sort of engine cleaner into the injector seat and polished with the paper towel swab. I repeated this with new pieces of paper towel until the injector seats were shinny and the paper towel swab came out clean.

Next, new injector seals and reassemble everything!

In my case, the excessive pressure from the injector blow by caused my turbo to not receive lubrication and burn up, so I had to rebuild my turbo also. I took this opportunity to clean out the turbo hoses, intercooler and intake manifold which had a lot of oil and carbon buildup.

Then when I got it all back together the EGR valve decided to fail - I deleted mine - but don't have to deal with strict MOT inspections here in the islands.

The amount of oil residue in the air intake disturbed me, so I am now working on installing a catch can to limit the amount of oil vapor in the air intake.

It isn't a small job, but it is totally doable by anyone with a little bit of mechanical ability. I would love to hear if anyone has any other thoughts on doing this job. I have a friend who needs his done soon - would love to know if anyone else has good ideas on this.

I agree it’s nothing very major but the car doesn’t seem to deliver the full 100%. Perhaps this helps, i thought a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover

If you think your injectors are fouled and producing excessive blow by I would fix it sooner than later. On mine, I let it go too long which resulted in my turbo burning up because the excessive pressure in the block wouldn't allow the oil to circulate and lubricate it (this is my theory anyway...). Also the excessive pressure will force oil out of every orifice and possibly damage oil seals. On mine, as soon as I cleaned up the injectors, seats and replaced the seals, the engine stopped leaking oil completely and is working fine.

As for loss of power, it could reduce the power because you won't be getting full compression in the cylinders. I don't know if you will notice an increase in power after doing this or not - but could make sense. A burnt up turbo will definitely give you a reduction in power - hopefully yours has not gone yet.
