LT77 gear lever selection problem
My Ninety has a 200tdi and LT77 gearbox fitted from a Discovery, it still has the Discovery short gear lever. In the "neutral" position the lever should sit below 3rd and above 4th, today it has decided its going to sit below 1st and above 2nd. The lever doesn't flop around and you can feel tension from the springs when you push the lever from side to side, it does make locating gears a bit hit and miss.
Is it likely to be the tension springs at fault? If so does anyone know the part numbers?
Many thanks. BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group

If you can fell bias spring tension when pushing the stick to the left and right, I wouldn't have thought that the springs had failed.

It could be that the spring adjustment has wandered off, to check you would need to lift the gear stick gaiter and the dust cover off of the turret to have a look. The spring #8 should have its arms resting on both the pins on the gear stick #7 and the adjustment bolts #5&6.
Failing that it could also be the arm on the end of the selector rod has rotated on the shaft, the one that the end of the gear stick operates on. The grub screw that holds it should be thread-locked and locates in a dimple in the shaft so shouldn't move.

Hope that helps
