I'm seriously contemplating having a full engine recondition on my 2007 TDCI. It's sounding like a bag of nails particularly when cold with one particular piston con rod clanking. The timing chain is also noisy as is the top end valve gear so maybe it's time for some rework.
I've looked for suitable engine re builders and there are lots out there but who do I trust. I'm looking for recommendations. Has anyone come across Fresh Engines UK for instance. They advertise on Ebay and on paper sound good but who knows. I tried finding them on companies house and they don't appear to be registered so I'm very wary. Any recommendations would be welcome "You are never to old to learn something new" |

Turners only appear to sell new short engines rather than recon existing ones.
I'm sure I read somewhere that there's an issue with availability of some of the components that would be needed for a recon, making it impractical at the moment. The Puma engine is so common I find it odd that there are shortages of bearings, shells, rings etc. There are quite a few out there offering full recons but I just don't really trust them. If Turners have new short engines these would have been built at Fords (for transits) I would think. "You are never to old to learn something new"

The description on their website advised that the sump needs to be changed for a LR one, so almost certainly, yes. Darren

I have a full rebuild kit ordered from Lyme Engine Parts. Cost $1400AUD landed.
Mine cracked #4 piston but I caught it before it damaged the block. I have stripped the engine and will reassemble when I can find time. Everybody here told me the engine was not able to be rebuilt because of the tolerances. The manual calls for a lot of Land Rover special tools but you can do it without any. Complicated engine in the fact that the they are a modular engine which everything bolts to the block, rocker girdle, head, block, crank girdle, adapter plate. I had various options new engine, rebuilt engine fix my own. A rebuilt engine was dearer than a new one of the Indi's. You need to buy a new sump and timing cover as these are one use items only. can you explain why the sump is a one use item?
I presume in the case of the rocket cover because it's plastic but again I'm surprised it can't be re-used? |

I knew the timing chain cover needs to be a new one as it's glued on and during removal it seems it's imposiblecto prevent distortion. I was not aware the sump cannot be reused. "You are never to old to learn something new"

I'm wondering what value Turner Engineering are adding when they are selling new Ford short engines? Is the timing chain the same? I always thought the transit used a toothed belt. "You are never to old to learn something new"

They are both pressed metal and very thin, both glued on. you could possibly reuse if you are carefull with removal but both are cheap to buy so not worth the trouble. mark |

Be very very careful when looking in to recon engines there's lots of tricks and some very dishonest people in this game ,turners have a very good name but good recon firms are rare .Sorry to be negative.
