Fitting speedo healer to Td5 Defender
Evening all.

I have bought a speedo healer to fit to my Td5.

One of these

https://www.jgs4x4.co.uk/copy-of-arb-digit...or-da1441/

Now, I didn’t get any instructions. But from what I can find on google it goes to a plug behind the handbrake back plate. Now, is the hand brake back plate the actual plate on the drum underneath the car. As that doesn’t seem to make sense to me.

Thanks [/list]

If you fit it there you will affect the Speedo as well and it will under read. You want to do it immediately before the ECU so it doesn't alter the speedo, only the speed the ECU is sent Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Are you fitting this to get cruise working with a 1.222:1 transfer box? If so it needs to either fit behind the dash and be used to break the signal wire from the speedo to the ECU, or at the ECU end of that wire which is in the seat box.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Martin. Grafty.

Thank you.

Yes it’s to be used with CC install with a 1.2 box. I’ll leave that to the job of the auto sparky then. Assume I just need to utilise the small box and not the extension loom then. Will it gain power feed from the ecu wire or does it need 12v as well?

If the connections are done under the seat box (where I did mine) there is an ignition live there ready and waiting Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

My speedo reads accurately with 285 75 tyres so I installed the unit between the instrument cluster and the ECU near to the main black ECU plug as per Grafty and Martin's suggestions, that way it alters the pulse signals to the ECU but with no adjustment to the speedo.

Mind didn't come with the plug-in loom so I hard wired it. The red cable on the Speedohealer needs an ignition live, the black cable needs an earth. I cut the yellow/white ECU wire coming from terminal B13 on the black ECU plug, connected the white wire to the speedo gauge end and the green wire to the ECU end. A few mins using the website instructions to programme it and it's worked perfectly for the last 18 months. Thumbs Up 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Speedo Healer to use the cruise control with the roamer driv
Hi, I found this instruction to make the cruise control works:

it needs to either fit behind the dash and be used to break the signal wire from the speedo to the ECU, or at the ECU end of that wire which is in the seat box.

Could I hev more details or electric scheme to make it? my Land rover mechanic installed the speedohealer in the back of the handbrake where ther is the plug but I think for the pourpose of the cruise control is wrong
Thanks!

Just for my knowledge.

Speedo healer but not used to adjust the speedo. So what role is it used in here ? Presumably a 1.2box gives wrong output speed to a cruise unit and this adjist it? Cheers

The TD5 ECU expects a certain ratio of revs to road speed for cruise control to engage, which is based on a 1.4 transfer box.

If you put a 1.2 transfer box in, the ratio changes which means CC won't engage, as the ECU thinks there's something wrong.

The solution is either to fit a speedo healer between the back of the speedo and the ECU to 'fool' the ECU, or to adjust the ratio within the ECU itself via nanocom or similar..

The speedo sensor in the transfer box is wired back to the speedo head. The speedo head then sends a modified speedo pulse to the ECU.

If your mechanic fitted the speedo healer between the sensor on the transfer box and the speedo head, then it won't fix the cruise control issue. It needs to be between the back of the speedo and the ECU.
