Defender vehicle road tax.
Here´s an interesting development. Road tax on a Defender reduced by 75% in Germany!

Over the years I simply got used to the fact that road tax for my Defender would always be amoungst the most expensive outlays on the vehicle. My TDi, prior to fitting a catalysator cost me €980,- a year. The Puma was alot cheaper, with cat (and the current 2.2) with dpf.
However, my last bill for my 2012 2.2 was €527, -.

I always justified the high cost with the fact that a set of tyres last forever, and diesel is still cheap over here.

When I bought the 2.2, I had hoped that the fact that the vehicle is classed as a light truck would extend to commercial vehicle taxation. The inland revenue in Germany decided that light trucks and short distance transporters (Berlingos, Citans, and such like) would be taxed as private cars, as they would often be used as such. The Defender was classified likewise.

This summer, a case in the lawcourts overturned this ruling, and they decided to tax, from September onwards, all light trucks as commercial vehicles.

The result is the inland revenue are returning €180,- of my 2020 tax, and charging me only €147,- for the whole 2021!

Diesel is 15% cheaper than petrol, and it is now cheaper (tax) to run a classic Defender than a new Defender.

I suppose the New Def hardtop is also typed N1, isn't it ? In this case it might be the same taxe ...

Here in France, N1 Defenders have always been vans - with respect to taxation - and cars - with respect to car insurance -

Politicians rarely make gifts. Good luck Thumbs Up

Good for you WC90, I’m beginning to wish I was in Germany too 😉
I try not to think about the tax I pay here in the good ol’ UK........I think it’s about £580 or something near.
I’ve got a 2010 90 station wagon and ever since owning it the tax has gone up every year.
When I bought mine I asked the salesman what the tax was, he quoted me a figure which I was happy with but failed to tell me that was for 6 months😡
Nevertheless I live with it now as I enjoy my truck immensely.
Diesel cheaper than petrol......how good is that?
It just goes to show how much we get shafted in the UK regarding fuel and tax (well my tax anyway).
I often wonder where the govt are going to get all their filthy lucre from after they’ve banished diesels and petrol vehicles
from the roads.
It must be a big source of income for them as things stand.
