Tightening torque for differential flange bolt
I can't find the prescribed tightening torque for the differential flange bolt (Part 16) in the workshop manual.
Does anybody know the correct tightening torque?
And under what name I can find this bolt in the workshop manual?

The tightening torque is mentioned on Ashcroft's YT video on diff assembly at 8:00.
If bolt: 100Nm, if nut 129Nm.

Just stumbled on it a couple of days ago.

I haven't been able to find any manual at all for the rover diff. All info I found came trough others e.g. Ashcroft, LRTV...

It is quite hard to find differential overhaul information in the current LR manuals.

The Puma WSM covers the removal and refitting of the diff, and the replacement of the pinion oil seal, but not the overhaul of the diff (probably because dealers now simpler swap them out, and don't overhaul them). I don't know if it is still the case, but the the 2.4 Puma WSM used the rear axle chapter from an early TD5 WSM and makes no mention whatsoever of the P38 diff fitted to LWB vehicles, it assumes that every rear diff is a Rover-pattern diff.

Incidentally the WSM does not instruct you to use thread locker on the pinion flange bolt, just to tighten it to 100Nm.

The only recent-ish manual I know of which covers the Rover pattern two-gear diff and the P38 four-gear diff as used on LWB Pumas and late TD5s is the last of the TD5 manuals covering models up to 2006, which is not available electronically (it might be if you have a TOPIX subscription, that I don't know). If you want a copy you'll have to buy it in paper form. It is the ONLY manual I have ever found which covers an overhaul of the P38 4-gear diff. The earlier TD5 manual (which is widely available on the internet) does not cover the P38 diff.

I second the thread locker... I had one come undone (probably nothing to do with lack of threadlock) and it was not a fun experience. ruined the flange, seal and uj. sounded like bricks in a cement mixer... at 70mph Very Happy

The manual may not say to use thread locker, but it cannot possibly do any harm.
