Not an expert at all. But cat removal and remap are likely to be an issue. Egr as well as it reduces the combustion temps (ie NOx). Liqui moly and others sell aditives to reduce smoke (and CO). Puma 110" SW

Redline,
I’ve had everything you’ve mentioned done and with a current mileage of over 160k miles was Giving out readings of very low emission levels. Testing station stated that levels were lower than most new cars less than 12months old. Will look at certificates and post what the levels were. One thing I would say is that the quality of the fuel does have an effect. I run Millers additive and 2-stroke and there was a big difference between running a tank of supermarket fuel and bp ultimate. I did put the finding/details on another thread on here but can’t remember which one. |

Bear in mind that the UK MoT does not test for NOx, which is what the EGR is designed to reduce. If the Swiss test does, then it'll likely fail. Darren

Redline, so you imported a MMR 2.4 Puma (Minor Markets RHD) which replaces the old ROW expression. Those early Pumas often were indeed built to EU2 emissions only. Guess that means they do not even have a CAT or an EGR.
Importing those into Switzerland is no problem, but I'm afraid you may run into a wall with our tech inspection unlikely to approve any 2007 built vehicle which is only EU2 (not even EU3). What are JLR Switzerland telling you about the chance to get a pass and get it registered here? Good luck, would be interesting to hear how you fare. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Gents,
Thanks for the many helpful inputs. MK -Agree on the EGR, but i've heard varying opinions on the CAT and re-map. Although the removing the CAT will have a negative effect on emissions, its not measured in the tests. Also, some claim that a re-map will potentially reduce emissions because of increased efficiency - which squares with some reports of improved mileage. SMB - I've also experimented with 2-stroke oil. The car definitely seems to run smoother when using it with crappy Diesel - feels closer to premium fuel. Amazing that your engine is performing so well! Anorak - Surprised the tests don't cover NOx, as these are legislated values?! Ericvv - Its a LHD so not sure about it being an MMR? I definitely had a CAT (now removed, and can be replaced) and the EGR is fully functional. To confuse matters further, JLR Italy have said it is 2003/76B/CE compliant, which I have been told is "equivalent" to EU4. In any case all the documentation has been approved by MFK, but they did not state to what standards the tests will be conducted. As I understand it, they will use the first year of registration to define which standards it needs to comply with. So that would be 2010, which is EU4 I think. |

There's talk of it being introduced but, apparently, the necessary kit is prohibitively expensive at the moment. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |
