I would spend some time on google researching these latest Fiestas I believe there has been some engine issues with some of them.
I owned an older model like yourself and found it to be a very reliable car. 2016 Defender Landmark 90 2005 Defender CSW TD5 90XS |

As MJN110 says, Ford have had a few problems with these engines. A quick Google will highlight the problems with engine fires.
Saying that my Mum and Dad have these Fiestas. My Mum has the 100 and Dad the 125. The 125 is a pocket rocket and he loves it. The 100 my Mum has is noticeably slower and is probably more suited as a second vehicle, shopping trolley, getting the kids to school etc. There is nothing wrong with it, but I would recommend the 125 as I think it is more useable and would be an easier drive if you do motorway driving in it. The down sides. Both engines are quite loud and do sound very strange as a three cylinder. They have also been quite disappointed by the MPG. They are not daft and realise the stated manufacturers MPG is widely off the mark, but they are not the most Fuel efficient of engines (especially the 125 BHP version). I think Dad is getting high 40’s to the gallon. But this may be the fact that he races the car through the gears like Lewis Hamilton. I like both vehicles, for what they are. They give a nice ride and are very inoffensive. My Dad is a hard bloke to please, and he has no complaints at all. I also had a work colleague who has a 125 version. Again he was very happy with it and regularly drove from Norwich to Devon in it with no complaints. I hope that helps. |

Had a 1.0l Ecoboost as a pool car at work and I regularly drove it across central London at night on a delivery run. It was a peach to drive, very easy with the 5 speed box and great at low speeds watching for camera's. Never missed a beat.
My son has driven his 1.0l for over two years now knocking up 15k-18k a year and its been great as well. No problems with it and it is regularly thrashed down the motorway as well as town driving. A great little all round car thats cheap to run and service. |

This may help:
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ford/fiesta-2013/good/ We've had a 2010 1.6 Ti-VCT petrol one for five years and it's been fantastic. I'm not sure if your old one is the mid 2000s shape or the post-mid 2008 revised one, but if you've had the old shape model, you'll be amazed at how much better the later one is in every respect. The handling especially is brilliant. There have been several features on Radio 4's 'You and Yours' consumer programme this year about failures of the 1.0 Ecoboost engines in the Fiesta and Focus, so please do your research thoroughly. |

My friend has an ST line with 1.0L fox engine which is the 125BHP one,
Took it for a drive and i was very surprised by just how nippy it is I find that i can't drive engines with less than 2.0L displacement. 1.8 at a push, But found that the 1.0L fox was quite good and that i could probably drive it. The main issue as previously stated is coolant loss which can lead to the car catching fire... Hello all
That's really helpful especially the issues of reliability and comparison between the 100 & 125 in daily use. I think I will hold out for a 125 they are harder to find in the trim level I am looking for. It seems most of the problems with the engine are associated with the Focus, they have had the recall and fire issues due to failure of the cooling system. The problem for me is giving up 60 mpg but I accept my mileage is lower and I do not want to get into DPF issues with a newer diesel. Any other views welcome whist I hunt down the right vehicle. 1984 One-Ten CSW 2010 XS USW (sold) 1957 Series One 88 diesel 1958 Series One 88 4x2 |

I have a 64 reg 100bhp fiesta. I’ve do about 10k in it every year, took it to NL twice for work this year. Perfectly reliable to date, I get upper 50’s mpg on good runs. Only complaint it that the headlights are not adjustable for Europe, need to use stickers. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

Hi, my girlfriend has a 65 reg fiesta 1l eco 100bhp, no problems so far, she does quite a few miles a year and it's just needed servicing. It's nice to drive as well on the odd occasion I use it.
I don't think you can go too far wrong with these, loads about and fiestas have been popular for years for a reason. Mike |

So it sounds like the 100 bhp is quite useable then. I have spotted a couple which are not too far from where I live but kind of discounted them in favour of a 125.
My tdci 1.6 Zetec S pulls like train. I wonder which one it more closely matches, 100 or 125? 1984 One-Ten CSW 2010 XS USW (sold) 1957 Series One 88 diesel 1958 Series One 88 4x2 |

I am sure the 125 will go much better, I think it's just over stressing an engine which is probably already at its reasonable limit with the 100. It depends on what you want from it I guess.

That's a good point Mike. Most of the time it will be on short runs but with a few 600 mile motorway round trips each year. Makes you think, my first car was a 3 year old 1.1 popular Mk2 ford escort. Gutless would be a word for it with a 4 speed gearbox frequently needing to go down into 3rd just to keep going. The A 12 from Colchester to Ipswich was spent flat out in third most of the time. Now we can expect a 1.0l 3 cylinder car to fly along with no such limitations! 1984 One-Ten CSW

The 100bhp should be fine then, but obviously depends what comes up, I don't know the real mpg between the variants.
Good luck with whatever you decide on |

Seriesonenut- I had a gold mk2 escort 1.3GL which I used to go to school in Colchester. It went really well from what I recall. At 17 I went to visit a uni and ended up doing a lap of the M25 after missing my turning. Shameful....
