apparently we are all going to be buying "electric milk float cars" next cars so they are not making petrol cars anymore ...
they've not heard about the rare earth minerals being plundered to make teslas ? having said that, working in Oslo now and lots of electric cars whirring about in the snow |

I'm sure that once Corbyn has re nationalised the railways, all PPi, gas, electric and water he'd love to rebuild British Leyland and why not at Swindon, apparently Longbridge is now a housing estate.
I wonder where he'll put the gulag? |

Its all the supply chain that will have the greatest impact, lessons to be learnt about putting all your eggs in one basket!
Bring Back British Leyland! then we can make some real quality cars |

Who or which group in U.K. could or would want to do that? JLR do not exactly have the best model lineup to transform into real fuel efficient cars, or are anywhere as close as others (primarily the German car makers) to offer full electric models in their lineup. Massive R&D cost is awaiting JLR if they still want to jump on the bandwagon. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Especially as the Honda Plant (and the Nissan plant in Sunderland) are only in the UK as it was a deal to allow the Japanese manufacturers a route into the European single market. If we are not in it anymore, why would they stay? Unsurprisingly businesses dont just stick around out of the goodness of their hearts! Although it is sad for the workers, anyone who is surprised by the news has been deluded if they thought anything else would happen! I wouldnt be surprised to see Toyota follow suit shortly. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

I don’t feel it’s any surprise in fact the area voted in 2016 for change.
If anything I think it’s for the better and each country can excell in what it does best. I don’t know if it’s just me or not but Honda cars don’t seem that popular either. They seem to have little attraction and are pricey for what they are also. They seem a bit mundane and this not very attractive to many people for that very reason. In 2018 the demand for diesel engines dropped by 29.6% & in 2019 the forecast is 16.9%.
Many dealers are selling cars at a "loss" & working on lets say servicing costs/finance/accessories to get their margin. I think we will end up in the short to medium term with a rural/urban divide on electric vehicles. Living in an urban environment is potentially easier with an EV. The main issue ( as I see it) is the power infra structure & the capacity to charge all of these vehicles. Perhaps long term owning/operating your own vehicle will become a luxury purchase & the "owner/driver" will be taxed into oblivion. Guy May your life be like toilet paper ; long & useful. |

Can't even blame this one on Brexit.
The EU has recently negotiated a free-trade deal with Japan so they can export from Japan into the EU, tariff free. The only reason to manufacture in Britain was to avoid EU tariffs. No reason whatsoever to manufacture in any EU country now. They are bringing the employment home to Japan. Looking after number one. A lesson there? |

I have every sympathy for all at HUM Swindon and their many suppliers in the industry.
Having to continue going there, day after day, for the next 2 years must be sole destroying. The place, and workforce, would be ideal for take over by another manufacturer in normal times. Good Luck to all affected. |

I recon its all started with JLR cutting back with the jobs. Then Ford started to scare with closure, Nissan decided to pull out one of the new cars, from the sunderland plant, and now Honda have decided to pack up their toys and go.
If any thing more is going to happen, expect it been from BMW and more from Nissan. BMW already started to scare back before xmas, stopping us from putting hols in. Due to the fact no one knew what they were going to do. ( they are one of our customers) Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |
