A powder or spray guide coat can also be useful, especially for finishing primer before base coat.

I just keyed and plastic primed mine before base coat and lacquer. Still good 18 months later 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

They're the shells to a pair of Peltor Sporttac electronic ear defenders. Did them back in the summer after a supposed professional did a job starting with no primer & with a lot of overspray due to poor masking. Decided I could do the job better myself so I did!
