Hello
You could go for 285 75 16, may catch standard arches, especially if you don’t have a lift kit |

If your current tyre size is 265/65/16 I find it highly unlikely that your wheels are in fact 17" in diameter. They have to be 16".
255/85/16 tyres are a common fit, slightly narrower but will give about anotoher inch of height. |

I assume the wheel size is the internal measurement where the tyre actually sits, ive measured the outside diameter of rim.
It does have a lift so was wondering about going up a wheel size also. |

Correct. A named 16" rim measures that where the tyre seats, the external edge of the rim is always more, hence your 17" measure. Makes sense as they look like the fairly common 16x7J Steel modulars.
I'd go for 255/85R16's. Nice and tall but not too wide Instagram: L90andy My 1984 Ninety: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56071.html - SOLD! My 2015 Defender: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39625.html - SOLD! |

So if I went for a larger wheel and tyre on a 17inches wheel and a slightly more aggressive tread what would be the recommended option be for that.At present there general grabbers

You don't need to change from your 16" to a 17" to be able to get a more aggressive tread.
17" isn't a very common size for LR's, most options are 16" or 18". All depends on your pockets though, in order of increasing cost: 1) Keep the 16" wheels and fit 255/85R16, 265/75R16 or 285/75R16 (as mentioned the latter may rub) 2) Upgrade to 17" wheels and new tyres. I think there is a relatively cheap Challenger 17" wheel. 3) Go for 18" Bowler or Twisted wheels and new tyres. It also depends on what your doing.
If your venturing off road the you’ll be better off with 16s. If it’s mainly a road car the 18s will be ok, if you like the look. 2002 td5 90 county hardtop |

Looks like it's sensible to stick to 16s if I go for the 285s do you think would they catch on anything else other than the arches?
Thanks all for your thoughts though. |

Hi
I had/have a set of 16inch nemieses wheels and 285 BFG all terrains and they only caught on the rear when heavily loaded and cornering and slightly on the front arches with articulation. This can be eradicated by slightly trimming the inside of the plastic arches, I just never got round to doing them. I can PM you a picture of the car with these on if you like |
