I remember this happening to me with my first Defender back in 2010/2011 in the very cold winter we had, I had to use another car to get to work.
On this one I coated the door seals and locks in silicon spray to hopefully help stop this, my seals were fine this morning but my lock was a bit sticky as it wouldn't shut on the first few attempts. The lock freed up fairly quick. |

My Defender has just (yet again) suffered from a broken wire to the door lock in the second-row offside door, usually an easily rectified minor inconvenience. However it did occur to me over the last few days that this is useful protection against the Defender spontaneous-cold-weather-lock-out feature that some folk suffer from at this time of year. At least even if the car locks itself while I am de-icing, it can't lock the second-row door.
I do have a cunning plan to fix the second row door conduit problem for once and for all this weekend, weather permitting. I am fed up with the six-monthly broken wire repair! |

Couldn't agree more it has been nice to watch the neighbours scraping their cars when you come out to a warm fully defrosted defender
My Skoda has struggled to get up to template on its 14mile commute, the defender is fully up to temp within a few streets after a pre heat with the Webasto. Looks like your defender has better insulation though as mine clears the bodywork as well Last edited by TJH1985 on 31st Jan 2019 12:49pm. Edited 1 time in total |

insulation.......ermmmm
mine has a block heater (thermo top C) fitted against bulkhead on passenger side - hence its cleared there! so engine lovely and toasty. Also has an Airtop under the 2nd row of seats for the interior so lovely warm inside too without sacrificing heat to the engine block. i fitted both around 2k miles old. Both are on timers and run off 2nd battery on split charge. Heated screen is also wired into heated door mirrors which is a good mod but need the engine running! heated rear seats the kids love! I had half an idea to use some curly cable, the next time I have to repair one. Darren

You can make curly cable, wind it tightly around a biro, leave for a while then slide biro out, has worked for me before, but the thicker the plastic covering, the less chance. 'Volvo XC 70, taking the rough with the smooth’
