Remap process?
I want to get a remap for my 2.2 and I am trying to read up on the process.
I'm nowhere near any of the remap companies so I can't pop in for someone else to do it. I'm not 100% clear on the options available to me.

I see both Alive and BAS and the like do in-shop remaps. These seem to be about £400 + VAT. This may not be an options for me though as I can't go there. Posting the ECU, is that an option? Is it as simple as that?

The other options seems to be a remote remap interface. But these are very expensive, they add 2-300 + VAT. Can you buy these secondhand? Can you sell them when you are done? Would you ever need it again?

Remapping only affects the fuel map I presume? I was recently in to the main dealer to update the ECU and they updated the ABS software and it has really made a massive difference so I don't want to lose this patch.

I already have a nanocom, can this be used to install the map or will I have to buy one of the remap interfaces?

Only one I've used is the BAS RRC which as you say isn't cheap at around £775 all-in.

BUT you do it yourself remotely and it's very easy do - send BAS some info about the car, they then send you a file which you upload to the module, plug it into the car's diagnostic port and it does the remap. Overall it's a 30 minute job.

Once done, you can keep the module and use on further cars by paying a minor fee each time.

OR you could sell the unit and recover say £450, hence "your" remap has cost you just £325 and it's been done at home.

That's my experience, hope that helps explain the process of a "remote remap" somewhat.

BAS sent me a remap all the way to the Falklands so distance is not an issue Smile

All you need is a phone or iPad (I used my iPad mini), the app, and the ability to plug the car in and be connected to the internet and the car at the same time at least for the first occasion. You read off some data, send it to Pete, he sends back a map (on mine, late on a Saturday, great service) and then you flash it which takes a few minutes.

After that, retaining the RRC lets you switch back and forth between standard and the BAS map, and do all the engine ECU checks for faults, display live values etc. ---

Considering I already have a nanocom is there any benefit to keeping the RRC?
And you can't use the nanocom to add a map on the 2.2?
