Driving in low range shouldn't have caused the manifold to crack... unless he was trying to go 90mph!

I thought driving in low range on hard surfaces cause excess strain on the engine and transmission?
And I haven't had any mechanical problems other than this, after the manifold was replaced no issues up till now and the manager at the dealership had his own 110 and a few client's tuned and had no problems whatsoever

I would also get anothe friend... one who will drive his own vehicle through a police checkpoint!

The truth is most people actually all the people I knew would just call or meet up when they needed something but when I met my girlfriend, which I used to know since grade school but haven't seen her in years, I saw what true friends are. Her family and her have always tried to help and have always been there. Probably a month into the relationship I cut off all the old people I used to know and that day I just needed a reminder why I stopped talking to those type of people. 2012 Fuji White 110 Flattened

Low Range Causes 0 problems driving on any surface - all low range is is lower gearing in the transferbox

Diff Lock (seperate to low range) can cause a problem driving on hard surfaces as the transmission can wind up. But in honest, if your not hooning around corners etc you can do a fair number of miles on tarmac. First things to cause problems are steering then the other components...but like i say, ive seen a number of people drive with diff lock in on the black stuff - ive even done it after coming off a site not realising the diff lock was in.

One thing neither will do is warp your manifold! Mike

Overall heat (EGT, coolant temp, etc) in the engine depends largely on the amount of fuel injected and burned. So it tends to happen at full throtle, low revs ie. demanding a lot of torque. Tunes are supposed make engines to work on the safe side ( I was told). Chips probably do not. Puma 110" SW

I said in the first reply that you answered your own question. your vehicle is chipped and has a bigger intercooler = much higher exhaust gas temperatures. Andrew said it too, not sure why you don't think this is the issue. it has nothing to do with the vehicle being driven in low range. plus, clearly your friend made a mistake, not sure why you would say "should have punched his lights out". some friend you are.

Big Mike I apologize I understand you and others already have told me that it was due to the chip. I'm sorry but I'm not very familiar with the way these things work and it's the first time I have something added to my own vehicle from outside factory specifications. I made a mistake by thinking a tune and a chip is the same thing. I talked to the manager again and he said the engine was tuned and the levels kept in safe conditions for the components that is why it is still under warranty and he also claimed that this was not what caused the crack in the manifold as he had his car tuned to the same levels and it was a puma defender as well that is why I was trying to find if there's any other reason the manifold would crack. The only reason I said it might have been the low range is that the manual clearly stated that on hard surfaces the "transmission" would be under serious strain im not sure about the engine I would need to re-check the manual I've read it when I picked it my car and when I had the problem that's it from my memory I assumed the engine would be affected as well. And for that I apologize again it's my mistake I should get my facts before posting in haste. The dealership wouldn't disclose what could have caused the problem after numerous attempts they said it's done under warranty you don't need to worry when all I wanted to know what might have caused it to try and prevent it happening again. And I just want to clear up my comment "should have punched his lights out" I'm sorry if it seemed harsh but I only meant it as a joke. I'm not a violent person and would never resort to physical violence and I did say the comment to my friend and he laughed I got angry because he waited for over two months before telling me what happened and he laughed and said did you end up paying for it I replied no thank god it was done under warranty " I should punch your lights out for that". I apologize to any one I annoyed. Thank you all for your input I really appreciate it, it's been a lot of help and new knowledge for me. I think it's for the best I don't pursue this thread anymore as like you all said it must have been the tuning. Sorry didn't mean to be a stubborn oaf I just didn't want to think that I paid for the tuning and was charged extra to send it here from the UK and it was a waste and should remove it. 2012 Fuji White 110 Flattened

Dont worry about it!

On a slight aside - despite what the dealer said - any tune automatically voids the warranty of an in warranty LR vehicle world wide...land rover wrote to all the dealers - so unless the dealer is taking on the warranty themselves - LR wont be Mike
