Any auto electricians on here? Strange issue
today I fit a new reverse light switch to our Mondeo. After connecting everything back up including battery reverse lights work. But headunit didn’t. Headunit is an old Kenwood double din so I assumed it had just packed in. Tried another headunit. Not working. Tried another not working.
Headunits power up and receive power fine but nothing works on them. Lights come on and then turns itself off after 3 seconds.

So upon getting hone home I removed the one out my Defender which I know works and fit it. Worked no problem. I then disconnected it and went to feed it all through the cage , did so and then it wouldnt turn on. Same issue as when in Mondeo FFS!

Plugged it it back into Defender and won’t work. FFS again!

Is it possible my mondeo is just killing headunits? All I did was remove battery to gain access to the reverse light switch and then re fit it. No keys in ignition entire time

Is there any reverse wire connections made in the head unit wiring on the vehicle side?
It could be grounding out and shorting the HU out.

Multimeter will be your friend, see with all power shut down if there is any ground paths present where there shouldn't be I.e in live feeds.

Obviously shut the complete power down and isolate first. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

Every time i changed a headunit ive had to swap out the central fuse for that system. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/
