I can't really advise on the valve, but would say that the if you end up having to take the dash out it's not that difficult. Can probably do it in an hour. There is a step by step in the factory workshop manual that can be downloaded from this forum. Just need to be methodical. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Practically, yes you can once the ecu is out of the way, however it’s tight.
The downside is when you fit another one back is making sure you have no leaks, again it’s tight. Removing the dash is a 30 min job at max and you’ll know the new part is fitted correctly |

Honestly, I'd remove the dash. For 45mins easy work you'll save yourself 45mins or more of hassle and cursing. Also gives you the opportunity to inspect the other components whilst it's out and, if you're up for it, I'd split the heater box and clean it out. Surprisingly dirty they get! If you do take the dash out, it would be worth checking the wiper wheelboxes for wear as these seem to be problematic.
With the dash out it is a quick job to change them. |

Hmm, I've had the dash out before and I thought it was a pig of a job. I might try from the engine bay first
