Increasing reverse light illumination
Any one got any ideas how I can increase the illumination of my reversing light without resorting to a work light. I live in the sticks and the standard reverse light intensity on my new 90 is inadequate..
Thanks
Dave

By that I mean an E marked LED unit from the factory that is legal.
Such as the Wipac version.
Fitting LED fixtures into the original holder is illegal.

Take a look here:

TBH Steve, I have the wipac LED one on my 90 and It's not that great an improvement. Better yes, but still not fantastic.
Better option is doubling up and fitting 2, one each side Thumbs Up Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

I put a work light on.

Normal reverse light for most things but then if I need I can switch it on and see everything. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

A work light is ideal if you've got a trailer too, in particular if it's LED as you don't have to worry about the battery drain quite as much.

I have tried an aftermarket LED (filament bulb replacement) of the type that are common on e/bay and it made a massive difference and was only about £5 however as others have said not strictly legal. A good alternative is a work lamp that can be switched from the cab, however again not strictly legal if used when reversing DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

As above. Just upgrade to a pair of the round reversing lights but when you do it make sure you go for fully road legal E-marked units such as these Le Perie units.

Seriously bright. Cool

I have the Le Perei led reverse light as standard on my SVX, and it is worthless. As good as the SVX Le Perei tail/stop light units are, as well as the led fog, as poor I find that reverse light.
The Le Perei fog throws better (red) light far behind the truck than the white led light of the reverse. Strange I think, and don't have a real explanation. Just to be clear, the reverse light is in fine as new condition, no disfunctioning LEDs or so.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Just doubling up the reversing lights is one hell of an improvement. It's not a difficult job, be prepared to wield the drill and you'll be fine. It can be as cheap, I used second hand bits I picked up from an autojumble, or you can go the whole hog and buy new fancy led sets from one of the forum.

Wire your worklight to the reversing light. There is a thread on here showing how.

Under Vehicle Lighting Regs only 2 reversing lights are required and they do need to be type approved/E marked.

Good alternative is two work lights high up angled out slighty so you get a better spread of light.

Wired and switched separately legal as work lights, not legal to use as reverse lights on the public highway, however legal to use as reverse lights off road.
