Soon is going to be October 2019 at the earliest. That is if there are no further delays. And it is apparently not going to be at one of the major motor shows, more likely to be more of a social media event. If it is October 2019, then first deliveries out of the Nitra plant will follow spring 2020. New Nitra plant is going to be the only assembly site, probably a good thing for quality as that should be a new motivated workforce.
Speaking of major motor shows. Future does not look good. After Opel and Smart already stayed away from the Geneva show this year, at the 2019 Geneva show JLR, Morgan, Volvo, Ford won’t be present either. A few more were mentioned too, possibly BMW, but I was so shocked to hear this that I do not recall the entire manufacturers list of absentees. Explanation is that the shows are getting too expensive, multimedia marketing is cheaper and apparently becoming very effective, so this last thing allows a move of steering clear of the expensive shows. Oh, a last point, the new Defender won’t be anything like our Legends, it will be a modern but very capable Eurobox. But that we already knew. All above info from my local dealer. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Unfortunately its a necessity. Companies have to go to climates in which they can make more profits. This doesn’t just happen for no good reason. It sucks for sure but.... 2018 RAM Power Wagon (American Muscle) 2003 Land Rover Discovery II HSE 7 (Still deciding on its role) 2004 Land Rover Discovery II SE (British Steel...& aluminum) 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE Lux (Soccer Mom car) |

Shame they couldn’t have made the date coincide with the Amsterdam Motor Show this year. That’d be 50 years almost to the day since the original 1948 Land Rover was launched. |

I'm sure Dobby meant 70 years! He is right in principle though. With a little bit more effort and less time spent promoting Series One replicas, they should have been able to hit that anniversary. Maybe the 71st anniversary? |

Think it may become more the 71.5th or 71 2/3rd anniversary or so. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Spoke to a local dealer about it today. Likely 2020 will be the earliest we'll see it. Although he did say all the dealership business managers have actually seen it in the flesh. It does look like a Defender, albeit "quite different".
There's going to be a 90, 110 and 130 version too. And possibly a fully electric version as well, which would tie in with it being the "most advanced land rover yet" that we've heard about. They're taking names of people interested already as well. |

^^ That is remarkably unappealing in just about every respect!
It actually reminds me of a Marina van. |

It has been said many times before, but just to re-iterate it once again - none of these images have anything to do with the actual production vehicle. They are all just computer-generated renderings that people have produced using a mixture of photographs of existing vehicles and the DC100 concept images.
The only images of the actual pre-production Defender replacement vehicle are those that have appeared more recently with the camouflage wraps. And it looks from those that the new vehicle will take it's styling cues quite firmly from the DC100 concept (which is unsurprising given how much R&D and design expenditure will have gone into producing that). There are hundreds of these type of images on the internet (because the Defender replacement has been talked about in the automotive world for such a long time), and some are more convincing than others, but they are all total fabrications and nothing to do with JLR. My own view is that if you look at the official DC100 concept images (the ones published by JLR), alongside the camouflaged pre-production vehicles, you'll get a pretty clear idea of what the new vehicle is going to look like. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green |
