Clunking or clicking and is it when you are moving? Could be CV joints wearing. If its a real clunk try wobbling the steering wheel back and forth while someone looks under the front, look at the balljoints for movement, the drop arm and the steering box.
Might also be worth checking the swivels are fully bolted to the axle tubes, have seen these come loose before. Visual check only from the front of the axle. |

Sounds like you need to put grease into the front hubs

Hi guys.
The clunking noise is when the car is stationary as well as moving. It sounds like someone hitting something with a hammer. 300tdi 90 1996. |

Check the state of the steering damper.

The fact it is happening at full lock even when stationary sort of rules out drivetrain.
I still think it is something like the panhard rod moving when the swivels have turned to full lock but the steering is still pushing/pulling on the axle. Maybe one of the bolts isn't quite tight. |

My thoughts too. Years back I had the southdown lower axle guard fitted to a 90. It was such a tight squeeze (along with A/R bars) that once the panhard rod bushes got a bit worn, the metal parts would soon knock together. |

I’d be surprised if you can’t locate the issue if you have another party to operate the steering whilst you are underneath - or vice versa - ensuring the vehicle wheels are chocked of course.
Could be any of the above and any ball joint. |

Sounds like panhard but would have thought 90roy would have spotted this when his helper was turning the wheels whilst he inspected as you can really see it move! > 110 XS Double Cab

I shall check the panhard rod.may get a new one for good measure if they're not too expensive. R 300tdi 90 1996. |
