Hi all I'm hoping that next year i can finally make a start on my project so i will need an engine hoist and as there are quite a few out there, i have not got a clue which are good and no good, so what do you use or could recommend to me, many thanks in advance  1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. 2 ton, folding legs, four casters on the thing so you can wheel it when the legs are up. 1 ton version aren’t any good for a Land Rover as when the boom is out it won’t take the weight and it’s not long enough to reach in the engine bay. I’d buy sealey as you can always get spares and the “Yankee” hydraulics are decent- avoid draper- I’ve had three hydraulic presses now by them under warranty. I bought an SGS 2-ton model a couple of years ago and haven't been disappointed. I have no doubt it is exactly the same as the unbranded ones out there just with a nice black paint-job and SGS stickers but they give a 2-year warranty and the confidence of spares backup (if needed). Very heavy and still quite bulky even when folded but it has the additional lifting capacity and (more important to me) additional height & reach which is handy when everything is done singlehanded. Also bought a load leveller which has come in very handy. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

The link above was used on my sports cars which are a lot lower. I probably used my over head old fashion chain block and tackle on the LR.

Spend the little extra on the 2 ton model. They come up of offer every year and you can pick them up new for about £250
