All excellent points, but many of you are still forgetting the enegy density and capacity of respective fuels.
Hydrocarbons will always have a greater energy capacity for the weight and volume than a battery ever will. Whilst batteries may be more efficient through less noise and heat than a combustion engine, to get the same range from a battery as hydrocarbons you need more battery. And given the cube square law, EVs become so heavy that they actually become inefficient. Honestly I think EVs are a bit of a fad, nowadays we can make fuel out of thin air literally, just splitting CO2 and H2O into long chain hydrocarbons and oxygen. Depoluting the atmosphere and creating pure fuel at the same time I think in 20 years time we’ll still be using fuel but not in the way we expect, I think we’ll have combustion engines in cars, but not to drive the drivetrain, but to act as a generator for electric motors That and hybrids. As stated the infrastructure cost is ludicrous, and the fact that the national grid barely copes with people brewing up at half time and over Christmas proves this. God knows how we’re supposed to charge 30million EVs every day. Mind you self sufficiency has always been a dream of mine, nice little homestead somewhere remote, geothermal, solar, hydro power, charge up my electric defender or whatever...
