The best to deal with in my opinion is Turners

They either spin the number 4 bearing or the rockers break away in the head. Injector faults and failures leading to failure.

Had to replace my 2.4 tdci engine at 105000 miles earlier this year.
Best deal for a new stripped engine + OEM turbo + gaskets was from M&D engineering. |

I am just wondering... How is this possible that those engines make hundreds of thousands of miles in Transits and fail after 100k in Defenders... Bergos

Well, I know for certain my airbox doesn't seal around the filter., and I suspect many others dont, which will do nothing for engine life. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

When I was serving, a common mod was to cut a bit of inner tube, couple of inches thick, and wrap it round the base of our helmets to prevent the helmet covers fraying when in contact with rock/walls etc. I thick some army surplus stores made them as well. Something similar would work well as a supplementary seal I'd think.

Following on, is it possible to recondition an engine (2.4 in my case) without taking it out? Monsieur Le Grenadier

Because it’s a different engine in the Defender than your everyday white van- the bigger version RWD transits have the same problems. |

the engine had 160000 km
at 135000 km the timing chain broke and i replaced it and then the turbo went and clutch only to find out there was a loss of compression |

Did it break the rocker carrier bolt? Out of interest did it get towed at any point when the chain broke?
