If they wave it would only be because the dealers told them to. Do disco 3/4 and RR drivers wave at Defenders? I don't see why this would be any different. I wouldn't spot it in the sea of jelly mould modern cars anyway. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

I think you will be able to distinguish this, the D3/4 is easy to spot in your mirror its the RR/RRS/Sport and D5 that all blend in from the front this clearly has its own presence and identity. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

So along with the too curvy front end, they missed on the roofline too. Others have mentioned this and looking at it I agree. Definitely would have looked better if they did the roof like that red colored rendering floating around. This would be an incredible new design if they had just made the front more squared off and rugged and kept the original roof line. It does look good from behind and side profile overall though.
I’m still interested and excited to see more, but I will probably be waiting on the new ford bronco line models out soon, and even the 4 runner redesign. The wait will also let me see how these new defenders are holding up. I’m not keen on ford, but I’d say the new 4 runner or even sequoia may be a more practical choice between it and a new defender. And I just heard they may be canceling LandCruiser sales in the USA. |

Are you being paid by anyone to be so perversely optimistic? |

This is the big miss for me and really proves LR is taking new Defender owners for mugs. This is being pushed out on an old outdated chassis at the same time all other models are moving to the new one that will cover the full range of electrification options from mild to wild. It seems LR will continue with the level of distain it has for the Defender and it's owners for at least the next 5 years. |

Styling aside, I understand that it's actually on their new MLA chassis that has provision for hybrid and full electric drive trains. Darren

Yes, that in essence was my point. Landrover had no trouble selling every Defender that could be made, however it had no chance of making every Defender that could be sold. The problem was not that the last Defender was a "teriible seller" by any means, it was simply hopelessly anachronistic by modern manufacturing standards. |

Given everything above the chassis is fairly simple and aluminium, I am wondering why LR couldn’t have simply created a new, modern EU compliant chassis/drive-train/engine and dropped a spot-welded body on top? The amount of time they have spent designing and developing this ‘all new’ Defender could have easily been used to re-model the current defender, not in looks but in Fabrication and a less labour intensive process created...they simply wanted to get rid of it and add McGovern Model #6 to the stable. Am I the only one who thinks this has a distinctly American front-end feel about it?

I had hoped it was, but recent stories have all suggested that it is on the old D7u albeit with some beefed up bits to make it more rugged. |

I think it is the only way designers have found for the vehicles to pass the pedestrian impact tests. See Jeep Wranglers very low score on this where it still uses its more traditional front. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

There will no doubt be a race to see which modifier can do this first. |
