I think you're right.

Which is a great shame since the Defender was never intended to be an SUV, it was always a multipurpose light truck. Only in recent years did the SUV community decide to start buying them.

If you can't unbolt the roof, convert it from a hardtop to a softtop, carry bleeding deadstock in the back in the day then hose it out and go to the pub in the evening in it, fit a cherrypicker or firepump, fit a snowplough on the front in the winter, and so on, then it isn't a Defender. Big Cry

sadly pal I think that died when they finished the production of ours. Land rover now I think looking at the pictures have just gone yuppie rather than workhorse etc Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

So the '130' is going to have the same wheelbase as the 110? Oh dear.

Is there an article attached to this photo? As in where it came from etc.

It looked promising from the “tusk” photos but to be honest from that picture it looks pretty minging

Looking at the spec sheets I can't image how McGoven with his cravat and dyed syrup is going to stand up on stage and introduce this as the world's best offroader with a straight face. The audience will think that Tommy Cooper has returned.

20inch wheels, embarrassing.

Toyota and Jeep must be beside themselves with laughter.

Please Toyota bring over the Four Runner you have in the States.

There is neither a 110 or a 130 here. The 3022 mm wheelbase given for both those models is 119 inch, so about in the middle of those two models. Also 11 cm lower than the current 110SW. Surely easier for parking.

James, how official are those pictures? Is this leaked official info? Sounds odd to release such intimate details two months before official launch.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

That's a good point. Even the '90' is nearly 102". Darren

Eric, the pictures were taken from FB, but they are all over the socials. In some you can see backs of heads so expect they are overhead slides shown during a presentation. James

Nothing to say about the new "Defender" anymore but I did want to say I saw a swb on test on the M40 this afternoon, fitted with a small roofrack with two spare wheels stacked on it. The rack actually looked like the old genuine roof rack from the 60s which was quite small and curvy. 2011 110 USW

A triumph of marketing over engineering

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The '130' is 1.1 foot longer than the '110' so this I am guessing will be a crew cab. So nothing like the load capacity of the current 130. I cant imagine LR bringing out a 2 door pickup as the mall cruiser image seems to be their preference - utility looks to be dead.

The image shown does look like a longer wheel base which is deceiving, judging by the description it looks like it is an excuse to put in more seats. The image also does not have a spare wheel on the back so expect a bottle of gloop and a rubbish compressor - this will be a hit!

Still not sold on the crappy centre console just to put an extra seat in just so McGoven can tell the press 'it has taken design cues from the earlier vehicles'
