My D5 had to get A-Pillar trim replaced, that was before they moved them to Slovakia. I like this bit, perhaps they need a 4th station because 1,2 and 3 ain’t working Finally, the car goes to be checked. “There are three stations to rectify any issues,” says Classon. “In the UK, the line is much longer, so we’re proud because we have to get it right first time.” |

Well if the defender line be like the Range rover back in Solihull then once the main shell has been glued and SD riveted together then all the major joins are photographed for future records. IIRC this is the process done on the line to ensure if there is any questions about body fit JLR can pull up it pictures to see if the fault was due to assembly or later environmental factors. That is an interesting article. I remember when build quality of the old Defender was questioned we were told that as it was mainly hand built and that human error will occur. We all heard the jokes about Monday morning/Friday afternoon vehicles.
I thought computer controlled assembly was ment to eliminate this and that every vehicle on the assembly line would be identical. Funny how none of this turned up when they made the initial pre production vehicles...or maybe deadlines were that tight they just did not have time to check assembled vehicles thoroughly. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Spent my afternoon in this today. Very nice bit of kit. I liked the wash out flooring and sensible upholstery in the version I drove. I have not experienced a modern auto and this made driving really easy. The price tag said £55k.

Yes cloth with a bit of leather. Looked smart but functional. no boot carpet but a removable hard plastic lid. Given I have carried all manner of heavy things in my 110 (probably a 2.25 diesel engine being the heaviest) I am not sure that floor would stand it! 2010 XS USW

Did you have a question in regards to the basic seats. We took out the P300 S spec last weekend. Could have taken the 240 SE but wanted to see if we felt we would miss the extras. The base spec seats were really nice in the time that we had the Defender. We both found them to be both very comfortable and supportive. The material also had a very nice strength about it , time will tell i guess. If you swap drivers a lot it could be a pain to keep setting up and not have the memory seat option. If you have a specific question i'll see if i can remember for you. the fact that they were not bad in anyway for me personally means i would be happy with them. Just for reference, i have the mark 1 Exmoor Trim Elite seats (none removable bases) and my wife has a Velar. Hope this helps |

Base spec seats are all cloth, the S has part leather. I had a look at the base Defender after my test drive, the cloth seats look better IMO. I’m not sure what the £3k premium for the S gets you over the base other than part leather and a digital dash.

Or it all turns out that the front desk service co-ordinator got all the right words but in the wrong order, got it all wrapped around their head and came out with something which bears no reality to the actual issue. It's better than it actually being true. |

I very much doubt any early Defenders were put through at 2 minute cycle times. Isn't that more likely to be the final top spec line speed. I believe it’s normal to start somewhere well south of that number and then incrementally notch up the speed. I also read that JLR were putting extra resources on the line at the beginning to double check quality. It's not as if Nitra didn't already have issues:

Thats more than likely the problem. Front desk stsff not knowing 100% and having a go at diagnosing the issue. A bit like the wifes Evoque. Went into the local dealer for DPF isues, several attempts later and it was sorted to my satisfaction. So called them, had a rant and then the front desk bloke informed me that it might be a fault they can't fix. Q mega meltdown over the phone st idiot. If I hadn't heard it myself I'd of said that no one would be that stupid to tell a customer they have a fault with their car and it's possible that it can't be fixed. 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

Anyone had an invite to drive Defender off road? I have signed up for two hours at the Skipton centre mid-September. It would have been rude not to! Took me all of four minutes to be polite and sign up...

Regarding the "misaligned roof" issue. I did wonder how the dealer could diagnose the problem so quickly considering how few of the vehicles would have been in the workshop and how little experience the workshop staff would have had with the vehicle. Honestly I can foresee a lot of head scratching by the workshop manager when it arrives in.
This is where the three year warranty falls down. If the vehicle spends a considerable amount of time away from the owner with a fault like this it cuts into the time the owner has with the vehicle before the next issue arises. It is a brand new design so there will be issues that no one will have a solution for. When I bought a turbo diesel 90 in 1990 I got a "one year comprehensive warranty". When I got the Puma I got a three year warranty, which I thought was great! I think JLR should up their game to a seven year warranty. As well as giving peace of mind to the owner it would help resale values of the vehicle. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |
