England 2004 Defender 110 Td5 XS CSW Java Black
So before my phone call, I stripped away all the carpets, sound proofing etc. etc., took some photos of the turret for Shabs(the guy who makes them) and sent them via Facebook messenger. I then attempted to call him, but didn't get through, so I made some minor adjustments and went for a test drive.
The test drive went better than earlier in the day on my way to work where I couldn't change down at all.
The gears are still stiff to engage but at least they are engaging.

Anyway, half way through my test drive I attempted to call Shabs again - This time I got through (on Handsfree of course)

After a good discussion and Shabs checking the photos of my turret which turned out to not very worn, he advised that the gears will be slightly stiff to engage but I shouldn't be having this much trouble with it.

Seeing as the gears seemed to be almost behaving themselves I said I would be in touch over the week and let him know how I get on..

Now to this morning!

On my way to work the first few hundred yards was good, relatively smooth with a little persuasion needed.

Until I got to the 3rd roundabout and needed to come to a stop and it didn't want to select 1st again. So I guess I may need to do some more tinkering..

He did suggest I could come and see him at the next car show - which may be on the cards if I cant get this to play ball before then.. Regards
Adam

cheers Adam,

Shame it's still causing you grief. I have found a difference in changes when the box is warm or cold - obvious enough I suppose. Just like you, I've driven around in the evening and got to a 'good place'; then on the way to work in the morning it's poorer again.

So it seems to be juggling 4 combinations: what it's like going up the box; what's it's like coming down; and both of those again if the box is warm/cold. Donald
