Driving Licenace Confusion - E Trailer
Evening,

I'm abit confused, I passed my B car Licenace back in 1999 but did not pass my BE until October 2014, thus allowing me a MAM of 7000kg. This meaning in can Tow a trailer upto 3500kg.

Now I'm thinking of completing a C1 ( Truck upto 7.5t ) to get a large Motor Home.

My question is if I pass the C1 can I use my E entitlement to tow a Trailer of 3500kg?

Nope. The +E entitlement cascades down, not up.

as above, there's another test you need to do that will give you C1 + E on the license Smile 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320

Ok, Next question then...

Can I complete a CE licence or do I require to Complete a C first?

Thanks

you will have to do C1 first then C1+E . It wouldn't cost much more to do C first which lets you drive any rigid wagon then C1+E

Just do your HGV test and be done with it Laughing

It would enable you to drive/tow any combination apart from minibus I believe Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

United Kingdom 1995 Defender 110 300 Tdi CSW Aintree Green
B - Vehicles more than 2 wheels, upto 3.5t, trailer upto 750Kg
BE - '' trailers over 750Kg upto Train Weight of 7t
C1 - Vehicles 3.5 - 7.5t, trailer upto 750Kg
C1E - '' trailers over 750Kg upto Train Weight of 12t
C - Vehicles over 7.5t, trailer upto 750Kg
CE - '' trailers over 750Kg (though a 102 restriction code limits to wagon and drag only, NOT artics - no 102, no restrictions)

So
B over 750 = BE
BE over 7t = C1E
C1E over 12t = CE

CE though does not always mean you can BEm depending when you passed what test.

And date of passing what test (or grandfather rights) make a massive difference. TY&GN

For clairity, as this point gets confused. If you do B&E, and then, say, Cat C, you can only tow 750KG behind a cat C vehicle, not 3500KG which many people assume. The "B" entitlement does not carry over to the next class up. To tow anything over 750KG (eg a 3500KG trailer) behind a cat C vehicle you would need C&E. 2011 110 USW
