DON’T USE SILICONE.
I would use a black Pu sealer. The best is Tiger seal. |

Reviving this thread. I'm currently making my own and i need some help.
Can anyone tell me what the preset force are on those gas struts. 50N, 100N or 150N? I could only get 150N struts and I'm not sure if the 6mm toughened glass will hold up to them. Click image to enlarge |

Thank you very much, this helps a lot. This is the last leg of this project and the glass isn't cheap.
Have a great day. |

Thanks. I will try to update as I go along.
This is a project that I wanted to do for so long, unfortunately money is always an issue. So it's slow going, but the end is insight. I first made the door out of aluminium to make sure that I get it right before the glass is cut. That's was a good decision as the locks in the photo are are about 25mm too low. The aluminium is a bit soft so it bends al little where the gas struts connects to the door. That's the main purpose of me asking about the gas struts. The toughened glass will be much harder and less likely to flex but I still have to commit before I know. Click image to enlarge I'm doing this all out of my head/ reverse engineering with a bit of help from fellow forum members. (This forum and the SA 4x4 community forum) |

Just an update, things are going slow but getting there.
Just finished painting and did a quick mock-up. Installation will be next weekend, if all goes well, it'll be a long weekend for us in SA Click image to enlarge As I'm eventually going for glass doors, I've opted to first test the setup with a aluminium door. |
