Personal choice but won't put loads of strain on defender mechanicals is not so much a worry as Defenders are designed to tow 3.5 tons.
If you do not wish to buy a full-size caravan then a trailer tent would be my choice easy to put up most have a good size kitchen at the back and if you buy a toilet tent and a porta potty you would have a toilet for when you are caught short! Another option could be a roof tent. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

Personally, if you're going to tow something it might as well be a proper caravan or trailer tent?
Have you seen the Opus trailers? Chuffing expensive though! Yes. Chuffing expensive, that's how I would put it too. But they do look nice and save space (and daylight) on the driveway.

Some really cool Teardrop builds on there, all US based but lots of feedback on pros and cons |

Have you looked at things like the Swift Basecamp?
There seems to be a new market for walk in small vans that you can store stuff in and then set up for adventure weekends. I'm starting to see these at cycling and triathlon events. |

Made me innediately think of GREENI's trip http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic15011.html?highlight=Scotland
Why not drop him a pM - I think he sold his Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

I would love the Swift Basecamp, but our four berth cost £5K and it's a doddle to tow

Just replaced my Vango Force 10 Mk4 with a Mk5. Lots more room, still the same fast erection (oooh err missus)
Click image to enlarge If it's anything like as well-built as the Mk4 (seems so) then I expect to be using it in 20 years time! Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Brilliant choice the Force 10.
Our Scout troop must have 20 of these things, the youngest one is at least 20 years old and still going strong. Sadly the youth of today deem them out of vogue, but if we keep hold of them for another 20 years they'll come back into fashion 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

Are they still made in Scotland? Vango is an anagram of Govan where they were originally made. My last Force 10's had "Made in Scotland" on them, but the new one does not...
Been a user for 20+ years myself - always use them for out-of-the-car camping (i.e. if I don't have to backpack with them)... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |
