Ideally your supposed to have ign on, and engine off,
But I have read and erased codes at work with the engine ticking over.

I did try to erase a code on my ultra gauge while driving, and it wouldn’t let you do it.

Pull over, then sort it (probably safer to!) Thumbs Up 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Yeah problem is that not all French motorway have normal safety banks. Some are Just less than 3 feet.... so its quiet dangerous to park the car.

Any ideaa what causes the problem. At least is not temp related. Cooling temp was only 95 degrees when it happened. a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover

Most probably MAP sensor having a moment!

Mine does this once every 6 months or so on a motorway drive, a quick clean does the job,
It’s quite a common issue. Wink 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Update.

Map sensor haven’t checked. But the studs have come loose again!!!!

Between the exhaust manifold and the turbo.

I think this could cause the problem. Does anyone concur? Or disagree? Any input is welcome! a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover

Yes, could be loosing pressure at the manifold.

Are you using the TDCI engine? 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Reading your signature, I wasn’t sure what engine you are running?

Just another question. As i was Reading the workshop manual (what else to do on a camping site in the middle of France in the morning). It said that you have to replace the o ring of the map sensor. How critical is this replacement? I thought to be on the safe side and clean the sensor as well. a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover
