2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Java Black
Engine lift bracket
Just completed a 1000mile road trip during which I could near a metallic rattle when pulling hard uphill mostly. Searched for anything loose whilst away but now back home had a proper route around and found this nestled comfortably on the rear of the engine............the bit that’s left in is still tightly bolted in place.....flipping really flipping flipping flipping should this happen?!!!!!?

it's supposed to be removed on the production line once they'd fitted the engine/gearbox assembly or by the dealer during PDI.

There was a TSB about it, where during routine servicing dealers were supposed to check to see if one was still there and bin it if it was. It risked rubbing through a couple of hoses I think.

Blimey, I'm surprised that there are any of those still left in place. Just remove the remaining bit and throw the whole lot away. Darren

looking more closely at the pic, I expect someone (probably in a dealership) tried to remove it but the bottom bolt was stuck so they just took the top one out and then rotated it out of the way, at which point the vibration has gradually fatigued the metal.

Mine's still fitted and causes no problems at all (2007 Defender, 226k miles).

You'll regret taking it off when you need to lift the engine out.

A better bet is to make sure that it is bolted on properly and that no pipes or harnesses are chafing on it.

can always take it off and lob it in with your tools/back of garage. It's not as if putting it back on would massively extend engine removal time. Or that you'd need it at the roadside.
