Thanks JOW. The thought process is that the hourly rate is only 10€ more than my local indie, yet will (presumably) be covered by Land Rover warranty for work, as it is a main dealer. So perhaps 100€ difference. Having said that, it does mean I cannot put in an Ashcroft kit or HD clutch. Given, if done properly now, that might be 50k miles from now, I wonder what the value will be in doing half the job now, half again when back (more time off the road), and missing out on full dealer warranty? I wish they would just open the box, tell me the problem, keep me updated on the work/hours/parts and stitch her up. I will then pay when done. All this estimaing without having looked inside is just nonsense. Fly-wheel replacement being one (curious) example? Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

If it's warranty work then get as much done as possible! You'll need them both again before too long anyway! Shocked Rolling with laughter James

They've probably mentioned the flywheel because they've confused it with the TD5 which has a DMF, whereas the Puma Engine in the Defender has a solid flywheel. (The Puma engine in pretty much every other application has a DMF)

In some ways they're doing you a favour because if I remember correctly the warranty doesn't cover diagnostic work, just the work to rectify the fault. So if they take apart more than they need to, theoretically you'd have to pay for it.

Thanks both.

I think I've confused things. No, it's not being done under warranty, but I'd hope there'd be some kind of warranty after the work has been done as it is a LR dealer, otherwise it's take a punt locally, return 1000km to France and risk problems. Worst case scenario of course.

Thanks ZSD for thoughts on assumed diagnostics and saving cash, makes sense, warranty or not.

I'll clrify the flywheel situation with them, odd that a LR dealer (which had a number of Defs in the car park) don't know.

Ta Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

If they use genuine parts then you'd get a 2 year warranty on the parts. So if they fail Land Rover should foot the bill for replacement. All Land Rover parts come with a 2 year warranty.

If they use after market parts then you just get what ever the statutory rights are in Spain.

re. the Flywheel it depends who you've spoken to. The service reception if they were ever mechanics might not have done a Defender clutch in years.
