Update! Could not locate any leaks so put the hiss down to paranoia until yesterday when the boost pipe split completely. Defender lost significant power but I was only a short distance from home so managed to get back.
Have patched up the pipe with a patch fashioned from an offcut of pipe found in the garage, contact adhesive and duct tape - hopefully enough to hold to get through tomorrow's MOT
