It’s worth checking with insurer, some count “free” windscreen repairs as a claim come renewal time. Yep. I found this to be the case in the past. Definitely worth checking first. £90 unheated which seems pretty reasonable, plus £15 for a new seal, which beats the excess cost which my insurance provider offers. I find these comments very strange. ![]() Certainly I have NEVER had a windscreen claim count against me in any way and for a number of years I was having my heated screens replaced almost annually (don't ask!). Plus with the windscreen excess being just a fraction of the accident excess it didn't even cross my mind to consider DIY replacement. In fact it is only in the past few years that my windscreen excess has risen above £50. ![]() With regards seals I have always found the aftermarket ones to be just as good as genuine in terms of both fit and longevity. I have that kit as in the picture. Handy to have in the car in case of emergency repair.

![]() The Forum is a fantastic source of info - would never have known the kits exist. Saves Gavin from AutoGlass the bother of informing my insurance company... ![]() |

I quickly Googled it as I thought my memory might not be what it once was. Direct Line says: Will windscreen repair affect your premium or no claim discount? It’s worth mentioning you’ve made a windscreen claim when an insurer asks if you’ve used your insurance, because technically you have. How they then use that information depends entirely on individual insurers. Some will take a year off your no claim discount if you’ve made a windscreen claim, some might increase your next premium. Others won’t be in the slightest bit interested. And Coop Insurance: It will count as a claim, but won't affect your No Claim Discount Clearly, some insurers aren't bothered, but some are, so I would think its at least worth considering before making a claim. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |
