I ran mine through the back of the battery box, then drilled up through the floor behind the box and ran the cable inside behind the seats and followed the same route down into the other seat box 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)
2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |

There should be a grommet next to both of the seat box lids in the seat box itself that xs defenders use for the heated seat wires. You can either replace these for grommets with holes in the centre or try and drill them out. Ray

On a vehicle with heated seats it's possible to drill another hole behind the seat wire hole.
A cone cutter is probably the easiest way to get the right size hole for the new grommet. Click image to enlarge |

Just found this ... for others info..... i simply moved the heated seat wire and grommet forward to a ready made duplicate hole and cable fixing point near the front of the seat box (the plastic retaining cable clip next to the grommet requires turning a little then it will pull out).same on the other side side! bought some 25 mm grommets from tool station £3 for 100 ( i do have some spare )as i wasnt going to pay 4 quid for two on fleece bay.........My heating loom was long enough to move the cables ..no need to drill anything.......... If you have the newer fusebox the plastic cover of the Positive feed to the fusebox is a to get off without breaking it ,if anybody has a part number for itand would be willing to share i would be a very happy man for at least a micro second ?
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge if anybody has a part number for the cover where the white arrow is or has any idea what its called as i have tried most descriptions and cannot find it online! |

nitram17 looks really tidy.
Did you use the LRD Security kit or buy cable, etc separately? |

Hi JPE I used the LR security product but i bought it last year and did not fit it till last week they might have updated it since then(they did not reply to my e mail so i doubt it)if you have a later fuse box the isnstructions were wrong and the fuse box end had a 6mm hole that needs to be 8mm...one end has a 90degree end which is awkward but still fits........... given that it was easy to fit (except for plastic cover to lead on fuse box)and moving seat heater loom.
In hindsight given that they did not reply to my e mail and the kit supplied had to be modified i woud save some money and either make it up myself or get someone local or ask paul on here to do it for you ..after all its a length of wire mimimum 25mm2 thick with sleeving and a couple of metal couplings and a few p clips ..you could do it yourself fo £25..............i chose the off the shelf version to save time! |

Thanks, much appreciate the advice. I've been trying to weigh up getting the kit or just buying some cable and bits. Your photos are really helpful to see how to route the cable. Thanks.

Hi JPE.. just one addition ..i dont know how old your truck is ..if you have the old fuse box the fixing at the fuse box end is slightly different .....its a bespoke fittment ie you have to remove a couple of plastic pegs and hacksaw of a chamfer on the cable end coupling for it to fit!easy enough and its easier than getting that bleedin plastic cover of the newer fusebox
https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic65541...+box+cover you have to move the seat heater wire to the ready made whole at the front! Last edited by nitram17 on 15th Aug 2020 9:01pm. Edited 1 time in total |
