Report received, I can't see anything particularly offensive - there's some stereotyping but also a number of London-based owners saying they do wave.
It's a rant so moved to Off Topic. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

If that’s the most discriminating and offensive thing someone has read on the site, they haven’t read enough of it

If you find this this offensive, whatever you do, don't join a 4x4 club that has LandRovers AND Suzukis.

I can see why he's moaning though... people on here bitching about lowered and pimped defenders... so friggin what!? It's their money to spend it on what they want. And whether they keep the vehicle for 2 months or 20 years
Or do defenders HAVE to be muddy and only used for cross country purposes? |

I can’t see why he’s moaning at all! nothing in this post is offensive, that’s how it is, you get pimped up defenders, retro and classic country ones lol what’s wrong with having a laugh? on the RS forums the track lads would have banter with the lads who cleaned there motors for show etc and it was thrown back at them about tacky rollcages. I’d say toughen up and stop getting upset by it 🤷🏻♂️ |

Nope Jim, didn’t bitch about lowered and pimped Defenders, (have you seen photos of my entirely road-biased, soon to be lowered, Bowler pimped DCPU?), I just explained why he might not be getting waves from people on his route to work. You’re quite right, the north London fashionistas can of course own their Defs for 2 minutes or 200 years, I never said they couldn’t, I was merely explaining certain owner/buyer’s psychology and why their reasoning for choosing a Defender (that of fashion/trend) might lead them to being less invested in the Defender ‘lifestyle’ as we like to think of it (and before it is pointed out to me, it is not the only way to own a Defender) and therefore less likely to wave. And like it or not, there are certain corridors and pockets of London and the wider UK where this is more apparent than others, his route from Essex being one of them. And I speak from experience being a born and raised Londoner, who has seen the evolution from when I drove the streets of London in the late 80s in a S3. Having said that, I think there are many of us Defender owners, perhaps a little more grounded and less swayed by fashion, who would agree that whether or not these buyers have the freedom to spend their money on what they want, frittering money away on a Def in the manner I described above, given it is such a unique and not-to-everyone’s-taste vehicle, is bordering on the nonsensical. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Irrrespective of where you live, there’s nothing wrong with saying some owners are in it for the short term and others for the long term. Followers of fashion will always move on to the next thing anyway. Adapting or keeping it as stock is a personal choice and I see blinged defenders a lot in London and couldn’t care less. Whatever makes the owner happy.

Living in SW London, there are few Twisted 110’s around, they wave, there is a lady who takes her kid to school in a 90, kid in the rear in a booster seat, they both wave at me, the kid more so even some Disco or RR owners do too. Mine is Twisted too, not lowered, mine HAS seen and been in the mud and rocks in Wales. And before anyone chimes up, someone always does, this is my 7th Series / Defender, and while in the US, had a 1997 NAS Spec 90, V8. Now worth a near fortune. |
