I can confirm I saw the squirrel running about outside earlier. So it either looking for a new home or has alternative means of entry. Need to keep my ears peeled for scratching. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Or it might be his mate who he has invited over to stay, or to do a bit of building work after some cowboy builder cemented up the access to his home?

Remember the TV show the good life? Well he was a bit like that, but add the hunting part, Also he did grow his own veg and did a bit of home brewing too  I recon if he had the space and some parts, I would recon he would have a go at living off grid too. Blocking the hole with mortar appears to have worked. I still him see out and about but no noises in the loft 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Failure. I am sat here listening to much scratching and scuffling in the ceiling above

Just look on the positive side - you may have been successful in removing the squirrel and as you suggest it may be some other critter making a noise. It may well be mice, they make a hell of a noise when scurrying about in the roof space.
We had a couple of mice in the roof space and at 2 o'clock in the morning I could have sworn there were two great danes running about. If your confident you've got rid of the squirrel then I'd put some mouse traps up there. Defender 90XS SW Mini Countryman Cooper S Morgan Plus 8 |

Right, this has turned into a bit of a nightmare, for both me and the squirrel. The hole I blocked was not where it was getting in. When I was outside yesterday orning, I spotted it emerge from under the eaves over the porch. Seizing the intitiative, and knowing it was outside, I bunged a load of chicked wire and mortar in the hole. Job done
It transpires out there is more than one squirrel... One is outside this morning, looking sadly in through the porch window and another one one is now going berzerck in the roof trying to find an alternative way out. I am now going to have to go and dig out all the mortar and chicken wire to let the trapped one escape. That's if it can get out, as it sounds like it has crawled,scratched and chewed it's way into a new part of the roof. No doubt the homeless one will use the opportunity to move back in at the same time. The saga continues.... 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |
