I'd say worthwhile rather than needed, especially if you don't know how hot it gets and/or regularly work it hard.
I've looked in the past and would probably go for the madman ems2 rather than an individual gauge. |

The Madman gauges are just stupid money now, used to be quite reasonable.
Its all down to my fussy nature I bought the MUD pod to mount x6 switches (needed), Stack Pro EGT Gauge & a Stack Oil Temp gauge (to even it out), the pod arrived today and it is rather large, I would prefer the MUD mini pod instead but if I need an EGT then I can't have it lol |

My egt cost $100 USD.....
I think you will need it unless you only use defender off-road. It is on highway that you really need to monitor the power output and egt of the little 2.2 engine |
