How dry is your air filter when the stuttering starts? Ray

Didn’t think to look at 5he air filter, I will however do so. Is that a problem with these? I know water gets in everywhere else

Don't know if it's a common problem, it was just a thought if you were driving in heavy rain. Ray

Raised air intake or Snorkel? Forward facing scoop type RAI heads (Safari and alike) have been known during heavy rain to allow water in to the filter box, soaking the filter. If you have a scoop type RAI head then turn it backwards to prevent this. Mine is backwards through most of the winter months to prevent this issue.
It would also be worth going over the vehicles earthing points, cleaning them up and putting a direct earth from the ECU to the negative terminal of the battery. May sound a little left field, however changes in humidity can do strange things to ECU controlled vehicles. Worth a try anyway. |

Thanks, it has a Mantec plastic jobby raised intake. Not long fitted so could be on the right track. Lots of rain on Tuesday so I will have a good look now and again then.
I will check the earthing as well, I opened the battery box as I thought that’s where the ecu was, I’m guessing it’s under the drivers seat? Or as on my 300 in the middle? I shall find it and check. Cheers |

Thanks peeps, checked air filter.....which is now drying out.
Going to assume plastic jobby needs better sealing, or could it get in elsewhere ? Thanks again Kev. |

Super. Glad it will be an easy fix. I do recall that Pumas had a big issue with the Mantec/LR plastic job snorkel and rough running in rain... would be worth search or two...

Funny thing is when we got our first defender, the 300, the guy we bought it from had fitted the Same snorkel and made a point of saying he had sealed it properly and most people don’t bother......I thought sales pitch but maybe it wasn’t!

I had the same last year driving through Poland in torrential rain, but I don't have a RAI fitted. Air filter was sodden with water being ingested through the air intake. Not sure if your RAI retains the original pipework from the wing to air filter but if so there is meant to be a drain valve in that pipework to drain off water. Mine was covered in Dinitrol, by the look of it, and was not allowing water to drain |

It does retain the pipe work, so I will check that as well. Cheers
It is absolutely soaked and currently drying out indoors! |

Might be worth ordering a new filter and as above check the drain plugs along the pipe work for blockages. Ray

Mine has acceleration problems in wet weather. I have to keep moving my accelerator foot to avoid the water dripping on it!
