“Clang” when stumping hard on the brake pedal
I noticed that, with the engine off, car standing still, if I press the brake pedal hard enough, I can hear a noticeable “clang” that I can also feel through the pedal. It seems to happen when releasing the pedal...

The car brakes fine though, but I wonder if that's something I should be worried about... it's a MY09 2.4 Puma with 60k miles on the clock.

Cheers! “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

Would rattly brake pads cause such a noise even when the wheels aren't spinning? “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

Just guessing here, but when you actuate the brakes with the engine off you release the residual vacuum from the servo. Could it be the springs in the servo rebounding when you release the pedal?

Yep anything involving brakes and abnormal behavoir is worth worrying about...

Can you have a closer listen, get someone to press the pedal while you go round all four corners try and find out exactly where it's coming from?

yes, actuation of brake pedal pushes pistons out which pushes pad to contact disc irrespective of whether disc is moving or not. Cheers

Sounds (and feels) like a spring, seems to be coming close to the pedal itself, possibly from the servo, but not sure... I don't think this is remaining vacuum in the servo because it happens every time, just just once. “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.
