Very sad indeed.
I wonder how the wheel came off and was it a driving wheel or the spare wheel. The article also does not state if the Discovery stopped at the scene. Iām guessing spacers but it made me go and check my wheel nuts were tight

The heavily-modified Land Rover Discovery lost the 33-inch wheel which careered into a footpath and struck the girl as she was walking to a school bus stop.
The more I think about this tragedy the more I think what are the odds of this sad event happening, just a second either way and it would have just been a news event of a Land Rover losing a wheel. My bet is on wheel spacers.

Very sad indeed. Could be anything though, corroded wheel nuts, loose wheel nuts etc.. doesnt automatically mean spacers...

The angle of the vehicle in the photo makes me think that the hub has come off, it looks too low to be sitting on the brake disk.

I was thinking a similar thing,
i thought it's unusual to lose a wheel bolted on with 5 nuts without some warning before hand |

We all remember the sad loss of all the kids, that was put down to shoddy Land Rover repairs.
The lifted disco club with crap remould knobblies may be in for some scrutiny. Tragic. |

I'll add, big wheels and tyres plus wheel spacers (or not) add strain on everything.
That kind of disco does have a certain reputation. Seen on 4x4 fun days nationwide. |
