I'll be joining too, so I can at least follow other people enjoying the new Defender. I'm pretty sure it will be a long time until I can afford one! As stated in an other thread. Jlr has been transformed into a modern car manufacturer. Which has been undoutbly benificial for their bottomline.
But. And for me there is a big but. Allthough they make really great cars nowadays LR has lost their unique product lineup. And perhaps it’s DNA. I’am not saying that’s a bad thing, i think the shareholder is very happy. But nowadays they are using design language, brand recognition etc etc. Resulting in a line up which is looking very similar. Try to look in the mirror on the motor way. Can you tell the difference between a evoque and a Discovery sport? Or between a range rover and a range rover sport? As I said a modern car manufacturer Just like BMW Audi etc etc So in my opinion this spells disaster for the people who like the bolted box design with minimal use of plastic and like to tinker on their car. But heaven for people who want a reliable daily driver where you only can change the wheels which resembles vaguely the original defender because it has also mounted the spare wheel on the back. a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover |

Surely hope so, but as I follow a bit the D5 forum I’m not sure Land Rover have their act together when it comes to quality and reliability. See below. Eric https://disco5.co.uk/forum/faults-and-fixes-vf10.html You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

I do find it irritating when supposedly educated people don't know the difference between the words "less" and "fewer".

i was at a defence exhibition recently and spoke to the LR sales team. they expected a range rover like monocoque hull and nothing that compared to a defender. they expected something flashy, flimsy, expensive that will devalue the traditional LR brand. I also spoke to Penman engineering who had something that looked like a big brother to a 110 sf/desert patrol vehicle, nice and boxy and easy to bolt things on to. the idea of scaling down to a 110 size if LR don't produce something worthwhile hasn't escaped them. And there's hope with Ineos! 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent |

Feck me, they're waving the flag for JLR well then...did they all have P45s in their pockets and serving out the notice period? Wasn't this lar-dee-dar lot was it? Click image to enlarge

the sales team were not convinced that abandoning the defender-type ethos to pursue a range rover type ethos was the right way to go.
here's the penman vehicle at another expo Click image to enlarge 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent |

Late 2018 is as precise as it gets.. JLR have got Velar, E-Pace, RR Coupe and I-Pace into production. There isn´t much else left to do, apart from the new Evoque (which will look just like a mini Velar) and get the new Defender out there.
"The much-awaited premiere is allegedly programmed to take place at Land Rover’s 70th anniversary party late 2018 and the plan is to offer multiple wheelbase configurations, hard and soft tops, along with a pickup truck derivative later in the life cycle. It’s expected to ride on an aluminum-intensive platform borrowing bits and pieces from the Discovery and Range Rover, so there should be a significant weight loss." https://www.motor1.com/news/236496/new-defender-eclipse-g-class/ I still see the G-model as a missed opportunity, and expect the Defender to be nearer to the mark. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |

i fear this is thie end of the road for me with Landrover.
All the models now look the same basic shape - crap. What they have done to the poor disco is just criminal. So whats everyones plan B if what LR offer is a slappers handbag ? |
