Any idea what this is?

Might have to re-think the jack mounting,

Has a split charge system, need to figure out exactly what does what,

Don't worry about it Crossfit_Pete, 13mm socket for the two bolts you can see and a 15mm socket with plenty of extensions for the one nut you can't.
I generally get underneath and disconnect the main power lead and tape it up to prevent any arcing as opposed to lifting the seat and disconnecting the battery.
As soon as it's off it is onle a 10 minute job to change the solonoid and contacts Wink

Cheers, this is quite far out of my comfort zone but I'm taking on advice that I really should get to know the vehicle a bit more if I'm going traveling in it!
Will report back tomorrow, providing it doesn't rain all day!

Six hour train journey yesterday, restless night in a Travelodge and a 4 1/2 hour drive home this morning.

It's a G4 lookalike, Td5 with a few mods, actually goes really well! 70mph in a Land Rover is a totally new experience to me!

Overall I'm really happy with it but the starter appears to be on the way out so I'm going to have a go at re-building it next week.
Watch this space!

Attempted the Starter today!
Removed engine cover and spent about 10mins trying to see where the nut of doom actually lived. Combination of my bad eyesight and poor light.
It's down there somewhere,

Got a torch and yes, bare threads! There was no nut Rolling with laughter
So, disconnect the battery,

Confusion Confused , luckily the PO had shown me the battery cut out!

10 mins later, which included taping up the ends of the cables 'just in case' and having to get the jack handle to use as a mini breaker bar and, het presto.

Genuine Land Rover starter,

Seen better days though.
Followed the X8R video on YouTube for the re-build, also bought their kit on the basis that if they can be bothered to put a video up I don't mind supporting them.
Very straight forward,

Took about 30mins, taking it very slowly and drinking coffee etc.
Another 5 mins to bolt it back up and it fired up first time.
The starter was intermittant before so not 100% sure it's cured but fingers crossed!

Another little job was to fit a cheapo 'snow cowl', just because I like the look Cool
Took the old vent off and there was a massive amount of mud/sand in there,

Scooped it out and ran some water through, there's actually a drain hole Shocked

Fitted the cowl,

Thumbs Up

looks like you've done your first repair all successfully. Mine was the same - get used to the vehicle by working on it. Again, like you, it didn't take too long- though I spent a fruitless half hour in nearly removing the alternator before I twigged..... Embarassed

We've had a fair bit of rain this week and I've noticed a few leaks!
I suspect the safari windows for this,

The front windscreen looks like it's also leaking, need to get this sorted.

When I bought it the seller mentioned an access panel for the fuel pump, thought I'd better investigate. Not bad to get to but had to remove the draw, which was a bit fiddly.

Did a couple of bits today,
Fitted the Mantec Tufflift, I always wanted to try one since I saw tem fitted to the Wolf. Pretty easy to fit, just two nuts to the carrier and adjust the straps (which was a bit of a faff)

Overall impression, not sure it was worth the effort but does make lifting the spare easier.

Had a KBX Grille and light surrounds that I took off an old ex-Military 90 I had so I thought I'd see what it looks like. Not sure to be honest, will see what it looks like wit the surrounds if I change to LED lights. It might offer a bit more protection to the intercooler?

Also bought these in preparation for the oil change,
