United Kingdom 2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Indus Silver
Puma clutch & warranty.
The 110 went into the dealers this morning, main thing is the clutch. Basically the pedal has gone even harder than normal to depress & if its fully loaded on a steep incline it stalls in first. They have just called & said its down to brake fluid, any thoughts?
Its a 2012 Puma with 44k on the clock, still under warranty but I'm having to pay £156.00 for the diagnostics. Isnt the brake fluid supposed to be changed in the service interval??

Brake fluid and clutch... What do they have to do with one another?
As to brake fluid, it has to be changed at each B service, or every two years at the latest irrespective of mileage done. Reason for max 2 years is that it is hygroscopic, so absorbs moisture over time.

Sorry Eric clutch fluid, have another issue with brake fluid but that’s another story.
So, £156.00 to take a look at it & now the same again to change the fluid (which should have been done on one of the last services but was missed by Landrover)
All whilst under warranty, which isn’t worth the paper it’s written on....

As far as I’m aware of, and as opposed to brake fluid, draining and replacing clutch fluid is not necessary at all. Just checking level and topping up if required. That is also what the service schedule says. Maybe worth asking your garage what’s the logic of them wanting to replace your clutch fluid. My truck is almost 10 years, so come September my brake fluid will be replaced for the 5th or 6th time. My clutch fluid was replaced for the first time last year when they installed a new clutch after it self destructed after 9 years/88.000KM.

Basically they’re saying they want to change the clutch fluid ( and get paid for it) before they carry on with anymore investigations regarding problems with the clutch. And I haven’t got a choice about that..
