Vacuum Pump, which one
The vacuum pump has started to fail in my 2007 defender 2.4 tdci. I know about the new pumps required instead of the original my question is, should I get a genuine land rover pump or are the cheaper Wabco pumps more than adequate?

Are they made under licence? Also why the price difference of 90 Vs 240 pounds?

I couldn’t tell you the in’s and out’s of why the price difference?
But Ford fit them as a standard ancillary.

Just go to a Ford dealer and get one from there, it will be a lot cheaper than JLR!

Wabco make the pumps then sell them to Land Rover (for a profit). Wabco may even sell them to Ford (for a profit), who then sell them to Land Rover (for a profit.

Land Rover add their own mark-up, part of which covers repackaging, warehousing and distribution as well as paying for the 2 year parts and labour warranty they offer on genuine parts. But mostly it's just more profit for Land Rover. Then there's an element added on to give the dealer a profit too. My local deal normally gives me a minimum of 10% off, but it can be a lot more depending on the part.

With some parts I think Land Rover or their suppliers just have a sheet of paper with hundreds of random prices printed on it and they blindfold someone and get them to pick one. Laughing
