1989 Defender 90 V8 Petrol ST Alpine White

Fuel tank breather

It’s been a long time but I Filled the old girl up last weekend to make the trip over to Halifax which had to be cancelled last minute due to a slight misfire (cured with a new distributor cap)

Ever since I’ve noticed a petrol smell around the car & in the cab, I’m going to take the tank cover off this weekend & investigate but can’t see any obvious leaks,
Is there a tank breather I should check?

One assumes a standard under seat tank then yes there is a vent.

Look through the wheel arch and following the filler pipe is the breather it vents into the filler apature so not to open air. Check the pipework from tank to carb for leaks / old age of the pipework, modern ethanol in petrol eats the rubber pipes.

Check when running could be a leaking union on the carbs or a stuck float causing it to overflow out the spill pipe. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest
