Saftey Devices Roll Cage.......
Is it just me,but having had to wait since november 2010 for my roll cage to arrive and an extra week for all the bits that weren't packed in crate! first time round.
I started to fit the cage this weeekend, only to discover that the quality control department all carry white sticks.Ihave expeienced the following.
1.Threads gumed up with paint.
2.Captive nuts not in line with holes.
3.Powder coating that chips when stared at.
4.The need to have a fairly comprehensive workshop facillity available just to make it fit.
This bit of scaffold was not cheap I would have expected a little better from a firm with was is a fairly good reputation.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?
While I can hear all of you saying send it back /complain/take them to court etc etc. When half way in to the job and needing my landy for work in the week, you are some what Censored have to adapt and overcome.
Perhaps a brusque email will be on its way to the supplier and the managing director of Safety Devices, they some what have you by the short and curlies as it was all payed for.It may result in a complementary fleece jacket and base ball cap(would have kept the rain off this morning).I think complaining will be like knitting fog and will only succeed in making me more bloody annoyed than I am at present Evil or Very Mad .
PS. Instructions Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Its never over in my land rover.

Shocked Shocked Shocked Looks like all the cage companies are doing bad jobs at the moment.

My SD cage slotted on a treat and the Powder coating is still fine after 6 months (no signs of cracking etc).

I've just purchased a North Offroad cage for my challenge truck. Came in kit form, painted in primer. All notches are good. Comes with all the relevant nuts and bolts. At the same time I've got a set of their challenge wings. They even come with the bonnet pins needed.
Will be getting it glued together in about 3 weeks time. Will let you know how I get on 110 D250 SE HT

Not all of them. just had a Whitbread cage fitted to my 110 csw. Fit is really good. Designed to my drawings, no problems. Its fully welded, so you wont get rust dripping all over the bonnet. The welding means its more difficult to steal too. Paint is good and easy to touch up if required.

Just finnished fitting roll cage.
I had to weld the chassis brakets ,as the holes to bolt it to don't exist!
I had to use a lot of bolts and washers that were not supplied.
I had to move the fuel filter as its in the way of the under chassis bar.
The recommended position of holes is a fairy story.

I think that the designers at Safety Devices need a kick up the arse because they haven't changed the design since the 300 tdi chassis. That only went out of production over 10 years ago.

Hey ho finnished now if you fit one to a 2007 defender allow a week to fit and remanufacture bits to fit. Its never over in my land rover.

I am extremely happy with my Whitbread roll cage. I would recommend them. The only criticism is that the paint job doesn’t survive a tough day greenlaning, hence the Hammerite Smooth. If I bought another one I’d go for galvanised. They made it to order and fitted it in a day.
