First road run - 57 Diesel
Made the most of a bright afternoon to give our 1957 88'' a run after a full on engine rebuild. First 30 miles of running it in!

That's nice! I used to have a LWB series two 'Firefly' which was ex British Aerospace (English Electric) from the Wharton Aerodrome - where the famous EE Lightening and Canberra bomber were made. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Just thinking about it, but where did you get spares for an engine rebuild. I had constant problems with the wet liners in my series one diesel (engine now swapped to 200 Tdi). I have recently sold a set of NOS exhaust valves for a 2 litre diesel, but was always led to believe most parts were hard to get hold of. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Hi
As you say parts are very hard to find now This is a very early 2.0l engine and vehicle. We entrusted the rebuild to a professional engine rebuilder. It took several months of searching using his contacts to find all the parts required. We had the original injectors and pump refurbished before it all went back together. The 9 bolt water pump is hard to find as well, we had our rebuilt with new bearings etc.

So now begins the task of running the motor in. It seems happy at 50mph at the moment so will be putting the miles on at weekends till spring. 1984 One-Ten CSW

Hi
It was. Very impressed. Small set up but he and his colleague clearly know what they are doing. If it's good enough for the factory to send him engines for rebuild..... Interestingly I believe LR wont be refurbing any diesels because of he shortage of 2.0l parts, Petrol engines no problem and in the few times I popped ito see Michael there was a steady stream coming through his door. 1984 One-Ten CSW

Well done Richard, very nice. I'm so glad I kept nagging you to get the original engine rebuilt! Laughing

Remember you have promised to bring her back up here!

I took this pic of her, several years ago on your front drive:

I have a little stock of 2lt diesel engine spares, built up over the years and the next project is the engine for the 1959 SII diesel.

I was going to do it myself (having rebuilt two 2lt diesels already) but the years are passing too fast, so if you recommend Meridian and remain happy with the quality of their rebuild, I might bung my engine at them, together with the necessary parts.

Will have a chat one day. Thumbs Up

Hi
Thats a blast form the past. A few years have passed since then!
Yes you were right to nag Alan and me to get it all back together and today it seemed worth all the hard work and expense. Don't forget we have fitted and removed the engine twice and put in a 2.25 diesel in between!

Sent you a PM (S2 forum) as I'd like you to have drive of it and get your A list review!
